Bio
Victoria Stusiak (b. 1977, Canada) is a painter, printmaker, and educator based in Edmonton, Alberta. She received a BFA from Concordia University in Montréal in 2005 and an MFA from the University of the Arts London, UK in 2011. Stusiak was awarded the Stevenson Scholarship in 2004 and the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant in 2004 and 2009.
While living in Montréal, she worked as a studio assistant and printer for artists John Richard Fox and Tom Hopkins. Her work has been exhibited across Canada, including in Montréal, Toronto, Ottawa, Halifax, and Edmonton, as well as internationally in London and Portugal.
In her recent oil paintings, Stusiak explores the shifting relationship between figuration and fiction. Through expressive compositions, gesture, and implied movement, her imagined characters evoke moments of tension, intimacy, and psychological ambiguity. Drawing from personal experience, observation, and the history of figurative painting, her work develops through an intuitive process of discovery, where memory, narrative, and image intersect.
